Nate: What has made this project different than all of the others we’ve done together?

Jeremiah: This house, since we bought it, has felt like we are digging roots. Putting something into the ground to grow. It’s just always felt different. It was the first thing we ever bought that wasn’t for us. It’s by us but it’s not for us.

Nate: Who is it for?

Jeremiah: Our babies. Poppy and Oscar.

Jeremiah: Now that the home is done, is there a moment or a detail, something small, that makes you smile every time you see it?

Nate: You picked olive trees from our own land that got pulled up out of the ground and transplanted in a row and I think what that row really symbolizes is that the trees have always been here but now the trees have a different purpose.

I never understood it. I never understood the land part. Oprah used to talk about the trees. That only the trees mattered, it was the land. And I was like right but what about the moldings? What about your flatware?

I think it’s the first time that we’ve had land so the fact that you took the land and asked the land to give us this whole new feeling when you pull up to the house is the thing that makes me smile and probably will forever.
